LINDA LISBOA
romantic comedy/drama
PRE-PRODUCTION
This warm, gentle and life-affirming romantic comedy is a coming- of-age movie, but for a woman in her 50s, rather than 15.
Linda and Jim are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Linda has her hobbies, singing in a local choral society and gardening and Jim loves to play Gershwin in the piano. Like many couples that have been together a long time, they have their routines, so when it comes to celebrating their anniversary with a trip away, even though it’s Jim’s treat, it is down to Linda (as ever!) to make the arrangements. But just before they are due to travel, Linda discovers a secret: Jim has had an affair.
‘Devastated’ is an over-used word and anyway, Linda is far too worldly and pragmatic to respond by having a melt-down; but she is cut to the core and needs time to process. How could he? Has their life together been a lie? What does this mean for her now…?
Quietly and without drama, Linda takes the plane tickets, changes the booking and flies to Lisbon without him, in search of answers. Alone in this beautiful city, Linda comes to realise just how much she still has to give and how much life has to offer in return: she casts off her gloom and falls madly in love. Not with a man but with fado – the music at the heart of beautiful Lisboa!
